Chiang Mai has some of the most beautiful mountains and jungles in Thailand. Tall trees overlook gorgeous valleys and rock formations. This scenery sets the stage for excellent zipline adventures. There are numerous day-tour ziplines close to Chiang Mai city. But which one is the most exciting? Over the years we've gained experience with many of them, so let us help you make the right choice. Please read our Top 3 Ziplines in Chiang Mai blog below!

What is Ziplining?

A zipline is a long cable between two high points that allows you to 'zip' over it. To be able to do that, you wear a safety harness that is hooked up to a pulley. (a little device attached to the zipline that 'rides' over the line) Going from high to low(er), you can then jump off one platform and ride the zipline to the next one, using only gravity! Some zip lines are steeper than others, but you can manage your speed using breaks on the pulley. Some of the zipline adventures also feature abseiling. When you abseil you are strapped in a harness and use pulleys and a line to descend vertically.

Zipline day tours in Chiang Mai

The jungle of Chiang Mai is one of the best places to go ziplining in the world. The lush forest features very high trees and the rolling hills present a spectacular view when high up in them. Of course, the picture only gets better when you are on the zipline! A bonus is that by being in the mountains the climate is much more fresh, meaning it is an excellent place to get away from the heat of the city.

Furthermore, the ziplines at our Top 3 zipline adventures receive regular safety checks to make sure no accidents happen. The highly trained professional staff will look after you while you are having the time of your life. Added convenience is the closeness of the wilderness to the city of Chiang Mai. Going zip lining at our Top 3 zipline adventures won't see you in transit for more than an hour each way.

Who can go on a zipline? What do you need to bring?

All the zipline adventures in our top 3 are for all ages. These zipline adventures all have experience with very young kids to seniors. The staff is well trained to make many accommodations for the guests, although there is a maximum weight limit of 120kg per person. The minimum height is 1 meter (3ft), to make sure all adventurers fit in the harness properly. Going on a zipline adventure involves some walking, and naturally, people with severe vertigo should stay at home. But, if you want to push your boundaries; these adventures ease you into higher and longer zip lines as you go.

Joining a zipline day tour is easy, and you can choose to be picked up anywhere between 6:30 in the morning to 12:30 in the afternoon.

You should wear sturdy closed shoes and comfortable clothes when going on a zipline tour. Also, It is a good idea to bring mosquito spray and sunscreen. Don't wear impractical jewelry, because it might get tangled with your zipline gear. Of course, also make sure you bring your camera!

The instructors are happy to help you with taking pictures during the trip.

With all the practical stuff out of the way, here are our Top 3 zipline adventures!

Our Number 1: Skyline Adventure, the Best Zipline Adventure of Chiang Mai

Skyline Adventure is, in our opinion, the most exciting zipline adventure Chiang Mai has on offer. A day tour here includes two hours of adrenaline and fun! Skyline Adventure features 21 different ziplines, with the longer ones boasting 300, 400, 450, and 600 meters, and its longest one an impressive 900 meters. They connect 38 different platforms, a big giant swing, and a Jungle Luge Car course of 2100 meters, which is fantastic and the only one in Thailand! Especially being on the longer lines will make you feel like a hawk flying over the dense jungle and valleys.

Skyline Adventure is our favorite zipline adventure for several reasons. It has a high emphasis on safety, using top-of-the-line zipline equipment. Skyline Adventure, with its longest zipline, puts itself ahead of all the other ziplines in the excitement and fun category. All in all, with a price per person of 2450 THB, it beats the competition hands-down in price-quality ratio.

The staff at Skyline Adventure is friendly, helpful, and professional, and has been trained with high standards for safety procedures.

Included in the price is a tasty Thai lunch, drinks like water, tea, and coffee, seasonal fruits, insurance, and a round-trip from Chiang Mai city.

Our Number 2: Eagle Track Zipline

Eagle Track Zipline

Just 30 minutes north of Chiang Mai city, in the green hills of Maerim, you can find the popular Eagle Track Zipline. Eagle Track is the best choice for families with young children or people who are a bit afraid of heights but still want to try a zipline tour.

There are three packages available, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Bronze is the shortest package and includes some of the lower and less scary ziplines. Great for the kids! The Silver package consists of the most extended zip lines and higher abseils. This package is excellent for people who are looking for an adrenaline kick and an affordable zipline option. The Gold package is a combination of the Bronze and Silver package, making it the ultimate zipline adventure.

A day trip to Eagle Track Zipline starts at only 1200 Baht per person, and this includes transportation, lunch, English speaking instructors and insurance.

IMPORTANT

Unfortunately, Eagle Track Zipline has been closed since the start of Covid-19 until further notice.

Our Number 3: Jungle Flight

A choice for Jungle Flight will take you to the heart of the northern Thai jungle in the Doi Saket mountains, about one hour east of Chiang Mai. It boasts not only the longest single zipline of 1000 meters, but it also has the longest zipline roller coaster in the world! The 1000-meter zipline gives you a fantastic view of the treetop canopy and mountains around you. On the roller coaster zipline, you go down the 1100-meter track in under 4 minutes, making slalom turns, steep drops, and even a full 360-degree turn! The standard package at Jungle Flight has 16 zip lines total, connected through 31 platforms and three sky bridges. It also features an abseil. There are different packages, for example, one that excludes the roller coaster but includes more ziplines and abseils. Contact us for details or advice!

Jungle Flight calls itself an eco-adventure because it constructed its zip lines in a way that allows the trees to grow naturally. Like the other zipline adventures in our Top 3, included are a nice Thai lunch, insurance, and the round-trip from and to Chiang Mai.

A trip to Jungle Flight costs 2800 THB per person and includes a Thai buffet lunch, transportation, insurance, safety equipment, and English-speaking instructors.

Ziplining is really for all ages. Last year, we sent our 60-year-old guest to Jungle Flight. He had so much fun that he booked the same tour again for the next day!
